College Park is located just north of the District of Columbia and just south of Beltsville in Prince George's County, Maryland. College Park is home to one of the finest state colleges in the nation, the University of Maryland, College Park. The community is centered around the university. The Terrapins are proud members of the Atlantic Coast Conference which, at one time, was limited to universities located along "Tobacco Road" but has now expanded to include the University of Miami and Virginia Tech, among others. Terrapin sports teams have thrilled their fans at Byrd Stadium, Cole Field House and, the newest edition, the Comcast Center. Their football team boast coaching legend Bobby Ross and quarterback Boomer Esiason, both would go on to the NFL. In fact, so many Maryland quarterbacks went on to play in the NFL that the university was nicknamed "Quarterback U". One of our Partners and College Park lawyers, Richard Shure, played along side Boomer Esiason as a running back under Bobby Ross. His toughness on the field has carried over to his dealings with insurance companies when obtaining settlements for injured clients. Terrapins men's basketball is probably the most successful team if you don't include women's lacrosse, which is a dominant force year in and year out. The basketball team, under the leadership of Gary Williams, won its first national championship in 2002. Famous players include Jon Lucas, Len Bias and Steve Francis.
Sporting goods giant, Under Armour, has significant ties to College Park. Kevin Plank, the company's founder played football for the University of Maryland and the institution was one of the company's first major customers. R.J. Bentley's is a mainstay on Route 1 and the original Ledo's Pizza got it start, not far from College Park, in Adelphi, Maryland. College Park's proximity to Route 1, Route 495, and Route 95 make it a home to many businesses. Unfortunately, these highways are often the sites of serious car and truck accidents as well.
College Park is not home to a state district or circuit court. The absence of a court has lead to a shortage of local College Park attorneys. The closest courthouse is a Prince George's District Court in Hyattsville. Our College Park lawyers are not strangers to this courthouse. Our Firm has tried several College Park accident cases and College park criminal cases at this location. This experience gives our College Park lawyers an advantage because we are familiar with the judges and juries. There is a Federal District Court in Greenbelt. One our most successful and experienced attorneys, Jonathan Portner is barred at this Federal Courthouse and has tried numerous Federal cases. There is also an MVA hearing site in Beltsville. When people charged with a DUI/DWI or other serious traffic violation they must appear before an Administrative Law Judge in order to get a suspension of their license modified or restricted. All of our attorneys have represented countless clients at hearings and know what is required to get the desired results.
Our offices in Columbia, Greenbelt and Rockville are just minutes from College Park. In fact, one of the Firm's partners, Jonathan Portner, drives to College Park on almost a daily basis. His son Jordan, is a nationally ranked tennis player and trains with USTA Player Development at the University of Maryland Tennis Center. We are a law firm with significant ties to the College Park community. These ties help us effectively represent college park resident who have been injured in a car accident or charged with a crime.
