  • Maryland Judicial System:
    The State of Maryland's portal to all Maryland court systems four levels: two trial courts and two appellate courts. The trial courts consider evidence presented in a case and make judgments based on the facts, the law and legal precedent (prior legal decisions from higher courts). Appellate courts review a trial court's actions and decisions and decide whether the trial judge properly followed the law and legal precedent.   • My Sister's Place:

    This beautiful center provides housing assistance, education and life skills training, emergency financial assistance, financial literacy services, and three meals a day to women and children in need. My Sister's Place Women's Center provides women with improved health, sustainable housing, and community integration. Families That Work is a program through My Sister's Place that helps these women earn their GED, and this was particularly impressive to Portner & Shure. This fiscal year five women, from Baltimore, have passed the GED exam and 37 secured employment.

  • The Esperanza Center:

    Esperanza Center provides a wide range of services to new immigrants to the Baltimore Metropolitan Area at their location in Fells Point. Through social services, employment counseling, and English as a second language classes their bilingual staff works with Hispanic and other immigrants to help them adjust to their new homes. This center appealed to our Hispanic staff, because many of them had to learn English as a second language, as well. This center continues to improve many immigrants' grammar, writing, and speaking skills.
